Patricia Ackerman, Senior Vice President, A.O. Smith, and chair of Milwaukee Women inc (MWi) will share an overview of MWi and the organization’s 2021 research results on the status of gender diversity on corporate boards in Wisconsin.

Following the brief presentation, a panel of MWi members who currently serve on Boards will discuss the skills and experience needed to secure a board seat, how they acquired the skills, and what you can do to increase your chances of being considered for a Board.

Christy is Chief Executive Officer of Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast (GSWISE), a large council with more than 15,000 girl and adult members. During her tenure, Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast has moved up to second in overall girl market share out of 111 councils. She also was recently selected as one of two CEOs in the GSUSA delegation at the 36th World Conference of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in Delhi, India.

Prior to this role she was vice chancellor, finance and administrative affairs at UW-Milwaukee, executive vice president and general counsel at Milwaukee Area Technical College, vice president and corporate counsel at Lutheran Social Services of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan, Inc., and associate attorney with Michael Best.

Christy is a director for Northwestern Mutual Series Fund and on the Medical College Board. She is also a member of the Downtown Rotary Club of Milwaukee, the Wisconsin State Bar, the Association of Women Lawyers, TEMPO Milwaukee, Milwaukee Women inc, and the International Women’s Forum.

Christy received the TEMPO Mentor Award, was recognized as a Milwaukee Business Journal Women of Influence honoree and a recipient of the Waukesha County Women and Girls Fund Women of Distinction award. 

Christy earned her B.A. from Stanford University, and a J.D. and M.A. at Duke University.

Jennifer Kent

Jennie is Executive Vice President of Administration & General Council of Quad, a commercial printing company which offers marketing strategy and management services, based in Sussex, Wisconsin. Jennie  oversees the Company’s human resources and corporate communications functions, including talent management, talent acquisition, compensation, benefits, business support, employee communications, and public relations. 

She also serves as the General Counsel where she has oversight of the company’s legal and compliance functions, as well as the government affairs, contract development, real estate, environmental management, and security groups. She is Corporate Secretary, which includes providing support to the company’s board of directors on corporate governance issues and handling various shareholder matters.

Prior to joining Quad, she worked in various roles in motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson Motor Company’s legal department, including three years on assignment in Europe supporting Harley-Davidson’s international sales operations. She was previously an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin and worked for Milwaukee law firm Foley & Lardner.

Jennie joined Quad/Graphics in 2010 as Assistant General Counsel managing the Corporate and Commercial legal group. In December 2013, Jennie was promoted to General Counsel.

In 2020, Jennie was appointed to Mayville Engineering Company, Inc. Board of Directors, and serves on the Compensation Committee of the Board.

Jennie earned her law degree from Stanford University and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Iowa.

Lori L. Stortz, CPA
Chief Audit Executive

Lori leads the University of Wisconsin System Office of Internal Audit providing independent, objective evaluation and consulting activities designed to add value to, protect, and strengthen the UW System. She reports directly to the Audit Committee of the Board of Regents and serve as a member of the System President's cabinet. My role includes consulting with the System Leaders, Chancellors and Chief Business Officers to ensure that we operate efficiently, effectively, transparently and accountably.

Prior to joining the University of Wisconsin System Office, Lori served as audit partner and Milwaukee office managing partner at McGladrey LLP for seven years. She previously was an audit partner at Deloitte & Touche LLP and BDO USA, both in Milwaukee.

In 2018, Lori was appointed the Commerce State Bank Board of Directors, and in 2020 she joined the Badge Mutual Board of Directors. In addition to her corporate board service, Lori serves on a number of not-for-profit boards, including Community Care Inc (Chair), Sojourner Family Peace Center, St. Charles Parish and School, and Accounting advisory board for UW-Whitewater.

Lori was recognized as a Milwaukee Business Journal Women of Influence honoreein 2013, and a Notable Board Member by the BizTimes Milwaukeein 2020. She was also a recipient of the RSM LLP Achievement Award in and the Tempo International Distinguished Service 

Lori earned a bachelor of business administration degree in accounting from UW-Whitewater.

Krista Brookmam

Krista Brookman

Krista Brookman is Senior Director, Diversity and Inclusion, Women's Initiative Cross-Enterprise of Northwestern Mutual after serving nearly a decade as Vice President, Learning and Advisory Services at Catalyst, the leading non-profit organization focused on accelerating progress for women through workplace inclusion. Brookman advises organizations about D&I research-based diagnostic tools, strategy, and skill-building leadership development programs.

She has over 20 years of experience, including her previous role at Deloitte where she directed marketing, while leading the creation of the Women in Manufacturing initiative, and serving in leadership roles within the Women’s Initiative and Diversity & Inclusion programs.

Krista enjoys public speaking and facilitating discussions. She has presented, keynoted, moderated panels, delivered workshops and advised on topics such as: women in leadership; leading diverse teams; measuring inclusion; D&I strategy; leading with inclusion; ERGs; and board diversity. Krista was invited to and spoke at the Global Competitiveness Forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She has been quoted in Fast Company.

Krista is active in several professional community organizations including TEMPO and Milwaukee Women inc.  She co-founded the TEMPO Women’s Affinity Alliance, has served on the Board of Directors for Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast, and served as the Mequon-Thiensville School District Board of Education President.

Krista was recognized as a “40 Under 40” by the Business Journal of Milwaukee and was nominated as a “Changemaker” by the White House United State of Women. Krista received an MBA and BA from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
